Members’ Choice
Choose a cause that is close to your heart – local, national or international. We encourage remote members to support initiatives that are local to them or to work with a local representative of a national organization. Undoubtedly, your community has a variety of programs that would benefit from your time and talent. Some possible examples include:
- Project Linus Canada provides quilts and blankets to children of all ages who are in crisis. They welcome knitted and crocheted items as well as quilted items. Visit their website to learn what sizes they recommend for children of varying ages.
- Quilts for Survivors encourages volunteers from across Canada to craft full-sized blankets that are then sent to survivors of the Residential School System and survivors of other trauma. They accept quilts that are a minimum of 48″ x 64″ and no larger than a queen-size quilt. Read their FAQs.
- Meals on Wheels programs are generally handled within a community. If you would like to donate placemats, contact your local Meals on Wheels program to learn about their needs.
- Refugee family resettlement programs welcome refugees to their new community. Contact the local immigration and newcomer agencies to find out how you can help.
- Care facility residents often appreciate walker caddies, fidget quilts and other fibre items. Contact a facility near you to learn what they need.
- Other charities that are meaningful to you may also appreciate your donations. Reach out to them to find out how you can help.
MEMBER CONTRIBUTIONS
Members interested in contributing to charities outside the identified Guildwide charities have primarily responsibility for learning what an organization needs and delivering it to them. If you need something (batting, backing, or a missing fabric) to complete a project you’ve started from your stash, please ask. The Outreach Team will provide what you need, subject to availability.
Before you deliver your quilted creation, please remember to take a photograph of your donation and email it to the Outreach Team or send a photo fro Show and Share. We would love to be inspired by your work!
COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS
Royal City Quilters’ Guild appreciates the generous financial support of the Guelph Lions Club and the City of Guelph who are helping us wrap some of Guelph’s most vulnerable members in a quilt.
